We want to acknowledge and thank those who have helped nurture our coffee personalities. For Tim, it started at the Buena Vista Roastery, in his home town of Buena Vista, Colorado. He went on to work at AJ's and Jitters, two cafes on the campus of Hillsdale College in Michigan. Upon graduation, he moved home to help open his family's own coffee shop, The Midland Stop.
Heidi began by rocking a Starbucks apron, but soon found herself being drawn into the thriving small-batch coffee scene in Chicago, Illinois where she attended college. Her favorite place to study was Hansa Coffee Roasters in Libertyville, but she fed her obsession with all things coffee by frequenting Ipsento, the Wormhole, Caffe Streets, and Intelligentsia. Of course these places helped her woo her future husband when he visited.
Coffee is a unique conversational catalyst. It has an uncanny potential to bring people together, as we discovered in a beautiful way. Obviously a strong mutual interest, good coffee facilitated the many dates, long-distance calls, and road-trips we enjoyed as we fell in love and quickly realized we wanted to marry. Soon after Heidi graduated, we made plans to move, marry, and make our beginning together in Cincinnati.
We are both passionate about the drink and the craft, but we care a lot more about the shared experience of making and serving it. That's what we like to do. That's why we started Juniper.
